A lived experience

Why Work With Me? My Journey Is Your Strength.

I’ve not only dedicated my career to healing, but I’ve also lived through many of the struggles my clients face.

For years, I was the patient, desperately seeking answers and healing, anxiously researching for recovery. I begged God for healing, often feeling forgotten, isolated, and profoundly alone.

The past 15+ years, my journey included a daunting list of diagnoses like Fibromyalgia, extreme fatigue, memory issues, chronic migraines, back and neck pains, and Lyme’s.

Last year, my health deteriorated again. I was in a cycle of repeated weekly doctor appointments, MRIs, Scans, and other various tests, a total of 50+ medical/ specialist visits.

Finally, a correct diagnosis was determined, a fixable structural issue with my eyes (mind you, this was after seeing the third ophthalmologist, a Neuro-ophthalmologist.

Yay for my eyesight being fixed. An easy fix, you would think!

I can tell you from experience that the medical system is broken. I am not sure where the disconnect is. Did the doctors not listen or misunderstand the signs, or did they diagnose only through their narrow lens of specialty? We found out that physically and structurally, I am very healthy and need glasses!!! A bill of $20,000 of our hard-earned savings.

I’ll be honest, it was a relief that no structural damage or cancer or anything.

During this whole process, I received many different diagnoses, at times conflicting each other.

Diagnoses such as Dysautonomia, Mass Cell Activation Syndrome, Lyme, Central Vertigo, Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), nervous system dysregulation, Mild POTS, GERD, Epstein-Barr Virus, anxiety, and chronic migraines.

However, some symptoms persisted, and many specialists informed me, “It’s all in my head from past trauma.” I felt I can now add medical trauma to my list of other issues.

It was a difficult pill to swallow despite persistent symptoms with no hope. The medical system focused on expensive scans and medications without addressing the root cause.

I knew there was more to it.

I was overmedicated, and eventually, the 24/7 dizziness and chronic pain became so debilitating that I had to close my private practice.

Life became unbearable; some days, I could barely move from my bed to the couch, and severe dizziness made driving impossible.
I was exhausted, super frustrated, sad, and felt invisible and isolated, because it felt like no one understood what I was struggling with.

But I refused to give up.

I knew answers existed beyond the conventional medical community, and I trusted in God’s promises.

I took a chance on myself, that my counseling knowledge could be the key to my recovery.
I have to be honest: I was eager for an easy fix, a magic pill, to avoid the hard work of inner healing. I now had constant fears about my health and my future.

Yet, I committed to investing in myself.

I began addressing my nervous system dysregulation—a diagnosis my cardiologist had given me without offering a treatment path.

I understood, I needed to cultivate a new relationship with my body, my chronic pain, my fears that caused my nervous system to be on high alert, processing stored up emotions, causing my anxiety to be on a non-stop loop of distress and again fear. It was difficult as a professional to admit that I was afraid and not in control of my body and life.

It was a relief to know that Jesus is there in the midst of it all to comfort me and guide me when it got tough.

My endless googling for answers, (thanks, health anxiety)!!! This led me to discover new counseling approaches that don’t just manage chronic pain but resolve it.

I found that your mind and body can be at peace. I learned about Neurocircuit Disorders, Mind-Body Syndrome, Dr. Sarno, and Psychophysiologic Disorders.

I found new amazing treatments for chronic pain: Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET) for chronic pain, and Freedom from Chronic Pain, to name a few.

Why am I telling you all this? I want you to understand that at times our path towards healing is never linear. During our recovery, we take many turns, interruptions, disappointments, and wrong exits off the highway of our lives. I want to remind you that there is always hope! Please don’t lose hope.
